The bulk of the target weight (usually around 95%) is filled very quickly for speed. The remaining 5% is dribbled into the scale slowly for accuracy. Accuracy tends to be around 1 piece. Speed tends to be up to 10 WPM per scale.

Computerized Combination weighers operate completely differently utilizing the processing capabilities of the computer. For example, on a 14 head Combination Weigher, the system quickly loads a batch of product (typically targeting anywhere from 20% to 50% of the desired weight) into all 14 scales. The computer then looks at all possible combinations of scales- 1,2,3,4,5 etc- and chooses the combination that is closest to the target weight. The computer then looks at the remaining scales to choose the next combination while the empty scales are refilling. Using the computer’s processing power, the system can achieve accuracies as precise as 1 gram on standard models and 0.01 grams on high accuracy models. For expensive products like scallops, gummy vitamins or cannabis, the accuracy results in huge savings. Speeds range from up to 60  CPM on a 10 head to 600 CPM on a 32 head.
